MY CHAPTER FIVE EXPERIENCE
CHAPTER 5: CONATIVE READINESS OF OPEN SCHOLARLY COMMUNICATION
This chapter answered the practices exhibited and perception by Malaysian researchers regarding Open scholarly communication. The discussion starts with analysis on their general practices includes experiences in publishing practices, frequency of practices, levels of practices and what disincentives practices of open scholarly communication. The analysis and presentation was about 32 pages. It answered research question 2.
Answering Research Questions 2:
What are the practices exhibited by Malaysian academic researchers towards Open Access, Open Data and Open Peer Review?
The chapter presented the analysis and findings on the practices of open data among Malaysian scholars. It further described the practices of the scholars towards scholarly communication related to open access, open data and open peer review among Malaysian academic researchers.
It is evident that the practice of researchers toward open scholarly communication is still low especially on open data and open peer review, probably that they don’t want to be associated with bad comments syndrome in science, they are not practicing open data sharing as shown in their mean scores (not consistent) and are not keen about whether to make their review open or not i.e. they displayed somewhat practices respectively.
It further described the practices and what disincentives scholars towards scholarly communication in relation to open access, open data and open peer review among Malaysian academic researchers. Also, from what disincentives scholar’s analysis, there is evidence that many of the authors do not practice open access i.e. have somewhat practices due to fear of losing next available opportunities. There is also moderate level of evidence or perception of unclear policy of the journal concerning submitting publication data with author’s manuscripts and misuse of data publication by other scholars either by no attribution of the sourced or copyright violations also contributed to their fears.
The chapter also presented overall readiness of the scholars towards practices open scholarly communication as well as general experience about publishing practices of scholars and cross tabulate to show their levels of participation in publishing and frequency of practices.
The next chapter will discuss the perception of the scholars towards open scholarly communication.
