The analysis was in two parts:
1. Presenting the analysis for each of the research questions; and
2. Presenting the outcome of the study by calculating the readiness index of Malaysian academic research in Open Science in terms of Open Access, Open Data and Open Peer Review.
The scholarly communication readiness index is one of the major contributions of the study. In calculating the readiness index of the scholars, I adapted and modified the study of Wagayan -Alicmas and Ramos (2015), Shaizimah (2011), Ramachandran (2010) and Dalenius and Houdges (1955) in order to calculate the index score range i.e. When a scholar score 5 - (4.6-5.0), s/he is said to be Sentience in terms of categorization. S/He is of a great knowledge in terms of awareness of open scholarly communication and he/she is ready to take up the opportunities involves in it. Practically, S/he is frequently practicing open scholarly communication and is ready to take up the opportunities involves in it. In terms of Perception, S/He is very transformative on what s/he thinks about open scholarly communication and is ready to take up the opportunities involves in it. Finally, to measure their readiness, they are Extremely Ready for open scholarly communication.
Also, when a scholar score 4 - (3.6-4.5), s/he is said to be Sprinter in terms of categorization. S/He is of a moderate understanding about open scholarly communication and gaining momentum for it in terms of awareness. Practically, S/he is almost every time intended to read, shaer and publish in open scholarly communication. In terms of Perception, S/He is transformative on his/her feelings about open scholarly communication. Also, to measure their readiness, they are Moderately Ready for open scholarly communication.
Furthermore, when a scholar score 3 - (2.6-3.5), s/he is said to be Stroller in terms of classification. S/He is moving ahead with open scholarly communication but not consistent in it in terms of awareness. Practically, S/he sometimes practice open scholarly communication, and in terms of Perception, S/He is unpredictive about open scholarly communication. Also, to measure their readiness, they are Somewhat Ready for open scholarly communication.
More so, when a scholar score 2 - (2.6-3.5), s/he is known as Starter in terms of classification. S/He is of a slightly aware of open scholarly communication but lacking the consistency in the momentum in terms of awareness. Practically, S/he is almost Never practice open scholarly communication due to lacks of motivation to continue the momentum. Also, In terms of Perception, S/He shows pessimistic on the issues of open scholarly communication and they are measure/gauge as Rarely Ready for open scholarly communication.
Finally, when a scholar score 1 - (1.6-2.5), s/he is said to be Stragglers in classification. S/He is Not at all aware of open scholarly communication it in terms of awareness. Practically, S/he is Never practice open scholarly communication and in terms of Perception, S/He is very pessimistic on open scholarly communication. Also, to measure their readiness, they are Not at all Ready for open scholarly communication.
And so, scholarly communication readiness index in Open Science reveals that for:

Using the legend: 5 –(4.6-5.0) Extremely Ready
(ER), 4 –(3.6-4.5) Moderately Ready (MR), 3 –(2.6-3.5) Somewhat
Ready (SR) 2 –(1.6-2.5) Rarely Ready (RR), 1 –(1.0-1.5) Not at all Ready
(NaaR).
In conclusion
To
sum the outcome of our findings, On Cognitive/Awareness of
Open Access by the
scholars, it was found out that Malaysian
researchers are Moderately Ready for
OA. Also, their perceptions
of OA are Moderately Ready; while in the area of
practices OA,
they are Somewhat Ready.
Their
Open Data Readiness Index shows that Malaysian scholars
are Somewhat Ready for
Open Data Cognitive/Awareness,
Conation/Practices and Affective/Perception
respectively.
Similarly,
for their Open Peer Review Readiness Index, shows that
they are Somewhat ready
too in terms of awareness, practices and
perception of OPR based on their
weighted scores. The researcher,
therefore, concludes that Malaysian Scholars
are Somewhat ready
for Open Science
To
categorizing the researchers -based on their readiness index on
levels of
cognitive, conative and affective towards open science,
the researcher used a
modified method from Wagayan-Alicmas,
and
Ramos (2015), Shaizimah
(2011), Ramachandran (2010) and
Dalenius and Hodges (1959) to gauge their
readiness and
concludes that Malaysian scholars are Strollers. They are moving
on with the trends of open science but not-consistent in terms of
awareness, on
practices, they sometimes practice open scholarly
communication while in terms
of perception, they are neutral on it.
